Rei Kuroki is one of the main characters in the TV anime Vividred Operation, a sci-fi action show created by Strike Witches director Kazuhiro Takamura about a group of young girls who don transforming "Palette Suits" to defend the world from mysterious interdimensional enemies known as the Alone. Initially introduced as a mysterious figure with ties to the Alone themselves, Rei becomes entangled with the main heroine Akane, and her complicated loyalties give the series much of its dramatic weight. She is voiced by Maaya Uchida, a Japanese voice actress and singer whose crisp, emotionally grounded delivery suits Rei's guarded, conflicted personality perfectly. Singing in character, Uchida also performs Rei's character songs, including the ending theme "Arifureta Shiawase" and the track "Vivid Shining Sky," both of which add an extra layer of emotional color to Rei's arc across the series. These character songs remain treasured pieces of the Vividred Operation soundtrack for franchise fans.
