Hakuryuu is a performer active as an actor and musician. He formed the Hakuryuu Band in 1978 and debuted with a single in 1979. He initially worked as a socially conscious rock singer who foregrounded his background as a Korean resident in Japan, and later appeared in numerous films and dramas as an actor, exuding a strong presence particularly in tough, weighty roles. Among his anime-related works is 'Makeinu-tachi no Requiem', the ending theme of the TV anime 'Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor', which he wrote and composed himself. His gritty, heavily blues-tinged voice left a deep afterglow on the ending of a work depicting the sorrow of people who throw themselves into gambling.
