MONORAL is a two-piece alternative rock band consisting of Anis (vocals, guitar) and ALI (bass, guitar, keyboards). The pair met and formed the band in 1999, debuting with 'In Stereo' in 2001. Anis, who has a multilingual background, frequently writes English lyrics. In anime, the band is widely known for 'kiri,' the opening theme of the sci-fi series 'Ergo Proxy' (2006). Written by Anis and jointly composed by Anis and ALI, the dark, stylish English-language rock track gave a striking voice to the decadent, philosophical world of the series and became a signature song that connected them with fans abroad.
