Kuniaki Haishima

Artist

Kuniaki Haishima is a Japanese composer and arranger. He has worked on numerous soundtracks for films, dramas, and anime, and is known for his weighty, shadow-rich sound design that crosses genres, including Tales of the Unusual, Master Keaton, and Mushishi. On the anime front, he handled 'GRAIN', the opening theme of the long-form suspense anime Monster, based on the manga by Naoki Urasawa. A stately yet ominous instrumental piece layering chorus and strings, it brilliantly embodies the heavy atmosphere of the main story, which depicts the fated pursuit between genius brain surgeon Tenma and the monster Johan set in postwar Europe, and has been highly acclaimed as the iconic opening sound of the entire series.
