Beneath the tagline "Together. To live, and to die," the visual depicts the rootless journey of master and retainer through swirling snow. The film reconstructs the world of SEKIRO — a tale of shinobi warfare in the closing days of Japan's Sengoku era — entirely through hand-drawn 2D animation. Animation production is handled by Qzil.la, with KADOKAWA and ARCH overseeing planning and production. The film carries a PG12 rating.
In addition, SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT has been selected for the Midnight Special section of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, a special program highlighting experimental and boundary-pushing work. With its honed swordplay and densely crafted visuals, the film will carry the world of SEKIRO to global audiences.
The theme song is "Blu" by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the artist whose film scores for Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and The Last Emperor earned international acclaim. The piece quietly accompanies the lonely journey of the two travelers.
Director Kenichi Kutsuna is a pioneer of digital animation whose recent credits include opening animation and animation supervision on Vlad Love, The Hunters Guild: Red Hood, and Magical Destroyers. The team also features screenplay by Takuya Sato, character design by Takahiro Kishida, assistant director Shunsuke Fukui, chief animation director Kaito Mogi, action animation director Takashi Mukaida, art director Yuji Kaneko, color design by Azusa Sasaki, director of photography Keisuke Nozawa, editing by Yoshinori Murakami, sound director Yasushi Nagura, and music by Shuta Hasunuma.
The cast includes Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Sato as Kuro, Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina, Jin Urayama as the Sculptor, Shizuka Itoh as Emma, Yuko Takase as Hanbei, Takaya Hashi as Owl, and Tetsuo Kanao as Isshin Ashina.
