Mecha-fantasy that began on Nippon TV in April 1988. Conceived by Oji Hiroi, the show whisks fourth-grader Wataru Hoshino into the divine realm of Sōkaizan, where he pilots the legendary Mashin Ryūjinmaru against the evil overlord Doakuder. Sunrise blended RPG-style world-building, lovable machine designs reminiscent of the Bikkuriman sticker craze and rapid-fire comedic banter to launch one of the late-80s' most beloved kids' franchises.
