Theatrical feature released by Toei Classic Film in February 1988, produced by Kitty Films. The first screen adaptation of Yoshiki Tanaka's space-opera epic Legend of the Galactic Heroes, this 60-minute theatrical anime by director Noboru Ishiguro depicts the encounter at Astate and the Fourth Battle of Tiamat — the first meeting between the young Galactic Empire admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the Free Planets Alliance strategist Yang Wen-li — laying the groundwork for the celebrated OVA series that followed.
