TV anime produced by MBS and Ai Kikaku Center, based on Yasunori Kawauchi's original tokusatsu drama (1972) but with a fully renewed setting. Aired from October 10, 1982 to March 27, 1983 on the TBS network in the Sunday 13:30 slot, 22 episodes total. Unlike the live-action version, the anime introduces a redesigned Rainbowman and the giant robot 'Rainbow Seven', with the villainous Shine Shine Group led by an alien. Protagonist Takeshi Yamato switches among seven incarnations to fight earth-invading evil. Directed by Nobuhiro Okasako, who was also the character designer for the tokusatsu version.
