Doraemon: What Am I for Momotaro?
どらえもん ぼく ももたろうのなんなのさ
Aired: 1981
A theatrical anime mid-length film produced by Shin-Ei Animation and distributed by Toho. A summer-vacation special running roughly 25 minutes, originally screened alongside larger Doraemon feature films and based on a Fujiko F. Fujio short story. Nobita and Doraemon use the time machine to dive into the legendary world of Momotaro, the peach-boy hero of Japanese folklore, where they befriend Momotaro's pheasant, monkey and dog companions and travel together to confront the ogres of Onigashima Island. Charmingly fusing classic fairy-tale beats with Fujiko F. Fujio's gently subversive humor and Doraemon's signature warmth, the short remains a fondly remembered staple of the 1981 Doraemon summer experience and an enduring memory of childhood summers for a generation of Japanese viewers.
