Space Warrior Baldios (Theatrical)
うちゅうせんしばるでぃおす げきじょうばん
Aired: 1981
A theatrical anime film produced by Ashi Productions and Kokusai Eigasha and distributed by Toei. A theatrical re-edit and conclusion of the 1980 TV series 'Space Warrior Baldios,' which had originally been planned for 52 episodes but was cut short at 31 due to weak ratings - leaving its sweeping SF storyline famously unfinished. This 1981 feature compiles the TV series highlights and adds substantial new animation to deliver the climactic ending the show never reached on television. Prince Marin Reigan of the dying planet S1 travels through time to Earth's past, hoping to alter human history and prevent the catastrophe that doomed his homeworld - all while piloting the colossal Baldios robot. The film's devastating final sequence, in which humanity's continued existence itself is left in genuine question, is widely remembered as one of the most shocking endings in classic robot-anime cinema. Koichi Ise's blazing performance of the opening 'Ashita ni Ikiro Baldios' anchors the score.
