A television anime produced by Toei's television division for Tokyo 12 Channel (now TV Tokyo), this giant-robot show is set in the early twenty-first century, when Earth has begun colonising the moons of Saturn. When the militaristic Eldar Empire launches an interstellar invasion of the home planet, three young Saturn-base recruits - Kabuto Kazamatsuri, Teppei Daito and Hideto Yoshinaga - are tasked with defending Earth aboard three separate mecha, Jupiter, Poseidon and Triton, which combine to form the colossal robot God Sigma. The series is notable for its then-novel three-pilot, three-vehicle combining design, for Isao Sasaki's stirring opening theme 'Ganbare! Uchuu no Senshi,' and for its prominent tie-in with toy maker Popy's Chogokin line, making it a flagship combining-robot title of the chogokin boom era.
