A television anime produced by Tezuka Productions and broadcast on the Nippon Television network, the first color-animation version of Osamu Tezuka's immortal science-fiction manga. In the twenty-first century, Atom, a boy-shaped robot of one hundred thousand horsepower created by Dr. Tenma of the Ministry of Science to replace the son Tobio he lost in an accident, is raised by Dr. Ochanomizu. Living in a society where humans and robots coexist, Atom fights evil with a righteous heart while confronting universal themes such as the preciousness of life, discrimination, and the sorrow of war. Building on the 1963 monochrome first series while substantially reconstructing its setting and redrawing it in color, this second series reuses the title song 'Tetsuwan Atom' with lyrics by Shuntaro Tanikawa, newly arranged by Shigeaki Saegusa.
