With Earth facing destruction within a year due to abnormal solar activity, the Space Battleship Yamato sets out into the vast cosmos in search of a new planet for humanity to migrate to. During its voyage, the Yamato becomes entangled in a galaxy-scale war between two great interstellar powers, the Galman-Gamilas Empire and the Bolar Federation, journeying among unknown stars while carrying the hopes of Earth. A grand space opera depicting cosmic warfare and the survival of humanity, planned by Yoshinobu Nishizaki and set within Leiji Matsumoto's worldview, with weighty music by Hiroshi Miyagawa. Although its broadcast was shortened due to cancellation, it remains an essential entry in tracing the lineage of the series.
