Planned by Dentsu, it is an omnibus-format children's anime themed around Japanese proverbs. The inventor Dr. Nanja Monzaemon resolves various troubles arising in his neighborhood by drawing on a rich store of proverbial wisdom. Distinctive characters such as the people of the Yamano family and Kinzo, a land-flipping schemer, appear, and each episode introduces multiple proverb episodes with light comedy. It is an educational-variety family anime designed so that children can enjoyably learn proverbs and the nuances of the Japanese language, and is also known for its distinctive format of four short stories per episode.
