A television special anime produced by Tezuka Productions and broadcast within Nippon Television's 24-hour charity program. A 91-minute feature special adapting Next World, one of the representative works Osamu Tezuka published in his early career, it is the third 24-Hour Television special following Bander Book and Marine Express. It depicts the emergence of the Fumoon, a new humanity born through mutation amid the runaway of scientific civilization, and the struggle of Dr. Yamadano, who sees their appearance as a warning to civilization. The nations, absorbed in an arms race, refuse to heed the warning, while a doubled crisis looms as a vast gas nebula approaches to envelop Earth in darkness. A lyrically rendered culmination of Tezuka science fiction combining civilization critique and an environmental warning, with Hisashi Sakaguchi handling the composition and direction of the entire work.
