A theatrical anime produced by Office Academy with production cooperation from Toei Animation and released through the Toei network, the third theatrical film in the Space Battleship Yamato series. In the year 2202, Earth is subjugated by the Dark Nebula Empire's heavy-meson bomb. The Yamato crew set out to counterattack in the Yamato hidden on the asteroid Icarus, but Yuki Mori, wounded during the escape, is left behind on Earth and tended by the enemy officer Alphon. The Yamato breaks through the dark nebula and reaches the enemy homeworld, only to be told that it is the future Earth, depicting a grand contrivance over the truth and a battle staked on humanity's survival. A work whose theatrical scale made its Warp Dimension staging, in which the screen size expands during the screening, a topic of conversation.
