Yoshinobu Nishizaki of Space Battleship Yamato handled the planning, original concept, and production, developing it from Koji Tanaka's science-fiction sea-adventure novel as a starting point. In the year 2052, the alien Godom, who have lost their homeworld, attack a thriving Earth. The boy Makoto Kusaka, who loses his father in Godom's onslaught, follows his father's dying wishes and rushes with his comrades to Point N-1, where he meets Captain Domon and the strategic carrier Blue Noah then under construction. Becoming crew members, Makoto and the others throw themselves into a desperate battle against Godom aboard the all-purpose carrier Blue Noah, which races across both sea and space. Created by a gathering of the Yamato staff, it is known for its weighty spectacle and drama set primarily on the ocean.
