It was the inaugural work of the literary anime slot Kirin Meikyoku Roman Gekijo on Tokyo Channel 12 (now TV Tokyo), broadcast in 13 episodes from January 4 to April 5, 1979, with original concept by Yuji Tanno (DAX). The slot's signature mature, literary tone-pairing classical music with weighty drama-was established here, setting the foundation for the later Kirin Meikyoku Roman Gekijo works Isabelle of Paris, Blonde Jenny, and The Wandering Girl Nell. Classical pieces such as Schubert's lied Heidenroslein (lyrics by Goethe) were used as themes. (C)Dax International
