A theatrical anime film re-edited from the 1974 TV series produced by Zuiyo Eizo. Based on Johanna Spyri's novel Heidi, this 104-107 minute compilation was released theatrically on March 17, 1979. Directed by Isao Takahata with scene design and screen composition by Hayao Miyazaki, it follows the orphan Heidi, living with her grandfather Alm-Onji in a Swiss Alpine hut, who-through friendship with Klara in Frankfurt and the pain of homesickness-rediscovers the joy of living amid nature and human kindness. A theatrical condensation of the landmark TV series that led to later Takahata and Miyazaki works. (C)Zuiyo Eizo
