A TV anime based on Tsuburaya Productions' original concept and produced by Nippon Sunrise. The first anime work in the Ultra Series, it aired in 50 episodes on TBS from April 4, 1979 to March 26, 1980. Science Guard member Choichiro Hikari merges with the light warrior Ultraman Joneus, who came from the distant U40, and transforms to battle monsters and cosmic threats menacing Earth. It realized large-scale space adventure and drama difficult in live-action tokusatsu through animation, influencing later anime-tokusatsu fusion works. Theme songs were written by Yu Aku, composed by Kunio Miyauchi, and performed by Isao Sasaki. (C)Tsuburaya Pro
