A TV anime produced by Madhouse. Based on the journeys of the 13th-century explorer Marco Polo and The Travels of Marco Polo, this travelogue drama aired in 43 episodes on NHK General from April 7, 1979 to April 5, 1980. The Venetian boy Marco crosses the Silk Road with his father Niccolo, returned from the East, on a grand journey to the Yuan court of Kublai Khan, weaving together history and legend. With an educational character, it visualized expansive travel sentiment on a grand scale. Notably, singer-songwriter Kei Ogura wrote, composed, and performed all theme songs. (C)NHK/Madhouse
