A TV special anime produced by Nippon Animation. Based on a tale by Miyoko Matsutani, this 75-minute special aired on April 29, 1979 in Fuji TV's Nissay Family Special slot. On New Year's Eve, a kind-hearted old couple who save a collapsed traveler are granted an abandoned baby the next morning-a child entrusted by the traveler, the 'New Year spirit.' Grown, the child takes the name Maegami Taro and confronts Mount Dodo, which threatens the village. A standalone story of courage and kindness told in the style of Japanese folktales.
