A TV anime produced by Toei Doga (now Toei Animation), based on Leiji Matsumoto's manga of the same name and broadcast over a long run on the Fuji TV network across 113 episodes plus TV specials. Tetsuro Hoshino, a boy whose mother was killed by mechanized humans, boards the galactic super-express 999 alongside the mysterious beauty Maetel, bound for a planet said to grant a machine body for free. Through the people he meets at each stop, and the things lost in exchange for an immortal mechanical body, Tetsuro keeps asking what it truly means to live.
