An SF anime produced by Toei Animation with character concepts by Leiji Matsumoto. Adapted from Eisuke Ishikawa's novel SF Saiyuki, it transposes the Chinese classic Journey to the West into outer space. When a decline in the Galaxy Energy that fills the galaxy turns space creatures into ferocious monsters and throws the cosmos into chaos, Princess Aurora of Earth sets out on a perilous journey toward the Great King Planet, the source of the energy, accompanied by the cyborg warriors Jan Kugo, Jan Hakka, Sir Jogo and Don Hakka. Centered on the exploits of Kugo (the Sun Wukong figure) and the loyalty of the knights who guard the princess, it depicts fierce battles against the distinctive monsters that appear each episode, brimming with the cosmic romance of Matsumoto's designs.
