A roughly 64-minute theatrical anime feature produced by Toei Animation and screened at the spring 1978 Toei Manga Festival, based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale Thumbelina. Directed by Yugo Serikawa with character designs by Osamu Tezuka, it is known as Tezuka's long-awaited return to a Toei feature for the first time since Doggie March. Born from a flower a childless woman receives from a witch, the lovely thumb-sized girl Thumbelina is tossed about by one trial after another, from a toad to a mole, yet, sustained by her friendship with a kind swallow, she journeys in search of her place and happiness. The film adaptation of a classic fairy tale depicted with lyrical visuals and music.
