チリンの鈴
チリンのすず
Aired: 1978
A theatrical anime produced by Sanrio and screened together with The Mouse and His Child, based on Takashi Yanase's picture book Chirin no Suzu and directed by Masami Hata. The lamb Chirin, whose gentle mother is killed by the wolf Woe, seeks the strength for revenge by apprenticing himself, of all creatures, to that very wolf. After three years of brutal training, Chirin transforms into a fearsome, monstrous beast with horns and fangs. When the time comes to attack his home flock, he is shaken by the sight of a ewe shielding her young, recalling his own mother, and finally turns his fangs on Woe. Depicting, as a heavy and beautiful fable, the sorrow of one creature left a lonely being, neither sheep nor wolf, as the price of revenge, it is an unusual work that leaves a deep resonance unexpected for children's fare.
