A TV anime produced by Nippon Animation, the second installment in the World Masterpiece Theater series. Based on an episode from Edmondo De Amicis's "Cuore," this masterpiece by the legendary trio of director Isao Takahata, scene designer Hayao Miyazaki, and character designer Yoichi Kotabe follows nine-year-old Marco Rossi who leaves Genoa to cross the Atlantic in search of his mother working in Argentina. Through Buenos Aires, Rosario, Cordoba, Tucuman, and Mendoza, his journey portrays both the kindness of strangers and the harsh reality of immigrant labor across 52 episodes.
