Cat-Eyed Boy: The Demon Legend (1976 TV anime)

Aired: 1976

A horror anime produced by Wako Productions, based on the manga "Cat-Eyed Boy" by Kazuo Umezu (1968-). The Cat-Eyed Boy, abandoned by his yokai parents and bearing cat eyes with a demon's body, lives between the human and yokai worlds, battling various monsters while confronting his origins. The series uniquely combines "gekimation" (paper puppet photography) with conventional animation. Notably, Umezu himself wrote and composed the opening theme. Later remade as a 2006 OVA by Madhouse. 24 episodes.
