Brave Raideen

A robot anime produced by Tohokushinsha and Soeisha (later Sunrise), based on the original work by Yoshitake Suzuki (as Saburo Yatsude) and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. The giant robot Raideen, revived from Mu Empire ruins, battles the demon empire led by Supreme Commander Barao and Prince Sharkin. Japanese-American hybrid protagonist Akira Hibiki, descendant of Mutron Princess Lemuria, pilots the ancient robot by physically merging with it. The directorial change from Yoshiyuki Tomino to Tadao Nagahama mid-series marked a turning point in adding dramatic depth to robot anime. 50 episodes.
