Steel Jeeg (1975 TV anime)

A robot anime produced by Toei Doga (Toei Animation) and Dynamic Productions, based on the work by Go Nagai and Tatsuya Yasuda. The ancient Jamatai Kingdom revives in modern times to conquer Earth. Young race driver Hiroshi Shiba, cybernetically modified by his archaeologist father Dr. Senjiro Shiba, combines his head unit with the giant robot Steel Jeeg as its head. Jeeg uses magnetic part-attachment ("Magne Robo" method), pioneering the genre and inspiring Takara's magnetic toy line. Later remade in 2007 as "Steel God Jeeg." 46 episodes.
