Great Mazinger

Aired: 1974 - 1975

A robot anime produced by Toei Doga (Toei Animation) and Dynamic Productions, the direct sequel to "Mazinger Z" (1972-74), based on Go Nagai's original work. To counter the Mycenae Empire's surface invasion, Dr. Kenzo Kabuto develops the new Great Mazinger, piloted by young warrior Tetsuya Tsurugi. With original Mazinger Z pilot Koji Kabuto away studying abroad in space, Tetsuya and Jun Hono (Venus A pilot) battle Marshal Yuli Caesar's Warrior Beast army. The series adds dramatic depth with Kenzo's parental love and Tetsuya's isolation, culminating in Koji's late-series return with Mazinger Z. 56 episodes.
