Stories including "The Little Match Girl," "The Little Mermaid," "The Ugly Duckling," and "The Emperor's New Clothes" appear in self-contained episodes within the "Calpis Manga Theater" timeslot (precursor to World Masterpiece Theater). Original characters fairy Candy and insect Zukko guide viewers through each tale. The first work establishing the high-quality family-viewable folktale anime format. 52 episodes.
