Roppo Yabure-kun

Aired: 1969

A TV anime produced by Nagoya Television (now Mei-Tele) with production support from Tokyo Movie (now TMS Entertainment). Based on attorney Sen Saga's legal primer Minpo Nyumon (Introduction to Civil Law). Broadcast in 110 episodes on the Nippon TV network late-night slot Monday through Friday at 23:10-23:25 from April 28 to September 26, 1969. Following the misadventures of protagonist Roppo Yabure-kun (voiced by Kei Tomiyama, with Kinya Aikawa as substitute), the series introduces practical legal knowledge in a comedic vein, pioneering both Japan's first late-night anime and the educational adult-aimed anime format. As the first in-house anime produced by a Nagoya-area station, it is recorded as an early example of regional broadcasters - not Tokyo key stations - taking the lead in anime production. Each episode's subtitle drew from a clause of the Roppo Zensho legal code, and Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor served as backing for the on-screen display of statutes, an innovative presentation for its time.
