Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho

Aired: 1969 - 1970

A TV anime produced by Tokyo TV Doga (later Nippon TV Doga). Based on Hiroshi Motomiya's manga serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from issue 11 of 1968 to issue 13 of 1973. Broadcast in 156 ten-minute installments (equivalent to 26 episodes) on the Nippon TV network, Monday through Saturday, from September 29, 1969 to March 28, 1970. The series follows middle-schooler Mankichi Togawa (voiced by Kei Tomiyama), who rises through sheer guts and fists, as he encounters rivals and underlings on the way to becoming 'the boss commanding every delinquent in Japan' - an epic-scale juvenile-delinquent action drama. As the first TV anime adaptation of a Weekly Shonen Jump work, it stands as the starting point of Jump's later anime expansion. The Kansai dialect of the original was rendered in standard Japanese for the anime. Color production. (C)Hiroshi Motomiya / Shueisha
