Sazae-san

Aired: 1969

A TV anime produced by Eiken (TCJ Doga Center at the time of broadcast start, renamed in 1973). Based on Machiko Hasegawa's newspaper manga serialized in Yukan Fukunichi and later the Asahi Shimbun. Broadcast on the Fuji TV network from October 5, 1969 onward, in a consistent Sunday 18:30-19:00 slot, it is a defining national anime of Japan. Centered on the Isono and Fuguta families, the series follows the daily life of three generations under one roof - Sazae (voiced by Midori Kato), her husband Masuo, her younger brother Katsuo, younger sister Wakame, son Tarao, and parents Namihei and Fune - as gentle home comedy tied to the seasons and traditional annual events. On September 5, 2013, it was certified by Guinness World Records as the longest-running animated TV series. Long produced on traditional cels, it transitioned to fully digital production after the September 2013 broadcast. (C)Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum
