Mach GoGoGo (1967 TV Series)

Aired: 1967 - 1968

The first TV anime series produced by Tatsunoko Pro. Based on the manga by Tatsuo Yoshida (serialized in Shonen Book), broadcast in 52 episodes on the Fuji TV network from April 2, 1967 to March 31, 1968. Young racer Go Mifune (voiced by Nana Yamaguchi / Asao Koike) drives the all-purpose supercar 'Mach Go' designed by his father, competing in international races while battling rivals and conspiracies. The Mach Go is equipped with seven special features including a retractable windscreen, underwater board, rotary saws, autopilot, and homing pigeon robot, captivating young viewers of the era. Internationally broadcast as 'Speed Racer' in the United States to massive success, it became the basis for the 2008 live-action film by the Wachowskis. As Tatsunoko Pro's first major TV series, it established the production foundation that would lead to later works such as Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and the Time Bokan series.
