A TV anime produced by Mushi Production. A sequel TV series based on the latter half of Osamu Tezuka's manga Jungle Taitei (1950-1954, Gakudosha's Manga Shonen), broadcast in 26 episodes on the Fuji TV network from October 5, 1966 to March 29, 1967. The white lion Leo, who was a cub in the previous Jungle Taitei (1965 TV series), has grown into adulthood, raising twin cubs Rune and Lukio with his wife Liya while facing humans and nature as king of the jungle. While the original manga ended tragically, this series was reworked into a happy ending where Leo survives. Eiichi Yamamoto directed production, and Isao Tomita returned to compose the music, expressing the grand themes of the manga's latter half through gorgeous orchestral scoring. As Japan's first full-fledged color TV anime sequel series, it remained one of Tezuka's most beloved animated adaptations across generations. (C)Tezuka Productions
