Harris no Kaze

Aired: 1966 - 1967

A TV anime produced by P Production. Based on Tetsuya Chiba's manga serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine (1965-1967). Broadcast in 70 episodes on the Fuji TV network from May 5, 1966 to August 31, 1967. Kunimatsu Ishida (voiced by Nobuyo Oyama), a boy strong in physique but weak in academics, transfers to the prestigious private 'Harris Academy' and demonstrates extraordinary athletic prowess across baseball, boxing, judo, soccer, and every sport imaginable in this school sports ensemble drama. As a pioneer of the all-around sports hero archetype, the work fused Chiba's signature realistic depictions with hot-blooded humor, positioning it as the starting point of the Chiba lineage leading to Ashita no Joe and Ore wa Tetsubei. Nobuyo Oyama's presence as a young boy role is remembered as a defining performance preceding her iconic role in Doraemon (1979). A color remake titled Kunimatsu-sama no Otoori-dai was produced in 1971 due to sponsor contract expiration. (C)Tetsuya Chiba / P Production
