Kaizoku Oji

A TV anime produced by Toei Doga. Original concept by Shotaro Ishinomori (Ishimori). Broadcast in 31 episodes on the NET (now TV Asahi) network from May 2 to November 28, 1966. The boy Kid (voiced by Toru Furuya), raised on a small Caribbean island, learns after the death of his foster parent that he is the son of the legendary pirate king Morgan. Together with his companion Pearl (voiced by Harue Sakakura) and the elder Crap (voiced by Hiroshi Yoriyama), he boards their beloved ship 'Hurricane' and sets out on adventures across the world's seas, while the greedy pirate Torafugu (voiced by Ichiro Nagai) constantly blocks their path in this adventure action work. Known as the debut work of Toru Furuya (then 12 years old), it marked the starting point of his long career leading to Hyuma Hoshi in Star of the Giants and Amuro Ray in Mobile Suit Gundam. As an Ishinomori-based boys' adventure anime preceding Cyborg 009 (1968), it is an early practice of the maritime adventure lineage. (C)Ishimori Production / Toei Animation
