Obake no Q-taro (1965 TV Series)

Aired: 1965 - 1967

The first TV anime series (monochrome) produced jointly by Tokyo Movie and Studio Zero. Based on the manga by Fujiko Fujio (joint pen name of Fujiko F. Fujio and Fujiko Fujio A) serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday and others (1964-1966). Broadcast in 96 episodes (192 segments) on the TBS network from August 29, 1965 to March 26, 1967. Q-taro the ghost (voiced by Machiko Soga) comes from the ghost realm and freeloads at the home of human boy Shota Ohara (voiced by Kazue Tagami), causing daily commotions through his quirks of fearing dogs, hating hunger, and flying. Created by Fujiko Fujio, Shotaro Ishinomori, Fujio Akatsuka, and Jiro Tsunoda gathered at Studio Zero, the work became a social phenomenon with average ratings exceeding 30 percent, and its theme songs 'Oba-Q Ondo' and 'Oba-Q March' became major hits. As the first TV anime adaptation in the Fujiko Fujio catalog, it is positioned as the starting point of the Fujiko anime golden age leading to Perman and Doraemon. Followed by remakes 'Shin Obake no Q-taro' in 1971 and the third Obake no Q-taro series in 1985. (C)Fujiko Pro / Shogakukan
