Super Jetter

A TV anime produced by TCJ Doga Center (now Eiken). The original work was an SF Japan plot-collective project by Ichiro Kano, Fumio Hisamatsu and others, with the manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday by Fumio Hisamatsu. Broadcast in 52 episodes on the TBS network from January 7, 1965 to January 13, 1966. Jetter (voiced by Osamu Ichikawa), a man from the 30th century who arrived in the 20th century aboard the supersonic jet ship 'Ryusei-go' equipped with a time machine, fights crime on Earth as a newspaper reporter in this near-future SF action work. The forward-thinking mecha gadgets such as the wristwatch-type time stopper, paralyzer beam gun, and Ryusei-go enthralled young viewers and established a template for subsequent SF juvenile anime. Takeo Yamashita's theme song 'Super Jetter' (sung by Kamitakada Boys' Chorus) remains beloved as a monumental anime song of the 1960s. (C)Eiken
