Gulliver no Uchu Ryoko
Aired: 1965
A theatrical anime produced by Toei Doga. Based on a Toei Doga original adaptation of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, with composition and screenplay by Masajiro Seki and Kei Iijima. Released on March 20, 1965. The elderly inventor Dr. Gulliver, the boy Ted, a girl robot, the dog Mack, and the crow Colins set off into space aboard Dr. Gulliver's homemade rocket Gulliver-go to battle the dictatorial robot government of the mechanized planet 'Blue Star' and liberate enslaved nature-bearing planets in this adventure SF fantasy. The work is known as one in which a young Hayao Miyazaki (in his second year at Toei Doga, working on key animation) made his first significant creative contribution, with the final scene of 'a girl falling from a star' famously replaced by Miyazaki's original direction, an anecdote frequently cited in later Miyazaki scholarship.
