Tetsujin 28-go (1963 TV Series)
Aired: 1963 - 1966
A TV anime produced by TCJ Doga Center. Based on Mitsuteru Yokoyama's manga serialized in Kobunsha's Shonen magazine (1956-1966). Broadcast in 97 monochrome episodes on the TBS network from October 20, 1963 to May 25, 1966. Boy detective Shotaro Kaneda (voiced by Kazue Takahashi) remote-controls the giant robot Tetsujin 28-go, secretly developed by the former Japanese military at the end of World War II, to confront evil robot armies and international crime organizations in this giant robot action work. The setting in which good and evil are determined by who holds the remote control influenced later works such as Mazinger Z and Mobile Suit Gundam. Positioned as the origin of Japanese robot anime, it is an important work and one of Mitsuteru Yokoyama's representative masterpieces. Multiple remakes have been produced, including The New Adventures of Tetsujin 28-go in 1980, Tetsujin 28-go FX in 1992, the 2004 Yasuhiro Imagawa version, the 2007 theatrical film Tetsujin 28-go: Hakuchu no Zangetsu, and Tetsujin 28-go Gao! in 2013.
