A theatrical anime produced by Toei Animation and Dandelion Animation Studio, based on the manga by Takehiko Inoue serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. The series has sold over 170 million copies. Domestic box office of 15.73 billion yen (13th all-time), over 39 billion yen worldwide. The story is told from the perspective of Shohoku High School basketball team's point guard Ryota Miyagi. Raised in Okinawa, Ryota devoted himself to basketball after his brother's accidental death. He and the Shohoku team (Hanamichi Sakuragi, Kaede Rukawa, Hisashi Mitsui, Takenori Akagi) face the reigning champions Sannoh Kogyo in the Inter-High second round.
