Against the backdrop spanning from the Great Kanto Earthquake to the Pacific War, it portrays the tragic love between Jiro, a young man devoted to aircraft design, and Nahoko, who suffers from tuberculosis. Announced as Miyazaki's retirement work from feature films. Earned 12.02 billion yen at the box office.
