A TV anime produced by TMS Entertainment and Tezuka Productions. An original story inspired by Murasaki Shikibu's classical literary masterpiece "The Tale of Genji," produced to commemorate the millennium of the Tale of Genji. Set in the Heian period, Hikaru Genji is born to the Emperor and his beloved consort, Lady Kiritsubo. Growing into a strikingly handsome young man, Genji develops forbidden feelings for Lady Fujitsubo, his father's consort who bears a striking resemblance to his mother, lost when he was just three years old. As if seeking salvation from his inner turmoil, Genji enters into relationships with numerous women. Directed by Osamu Dezaki with series composition and screenplay by Tomoko Konparu. The anime aired on Fuji TV's "noitaminA" programming block and other stations from January 15 to March 26, 2009 for a total of 11 episodes. ©Genji Production Committee
