Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel "Les Miserables," the anime follows ex-convict Jean Valjean and young Cosette across 52 episodes set in early 19th-century France. Produced after a roughly 10-year hiatus, it marked the franchise's transition to BS digital broadcasting.
