Legend of Basara

An adventure fantasy anime based on Yumi Tamura's manga. Set in a near-future Japan after the collapse of civilization, the story follows Sarasa, a girl whose twin brother, prophesied to save the oppressed, is killed in childhood. Taking on his name and appearance, she rises as the Child of Destiny to defy the tyrannical kings who rule the land. The show combines a sweeping war chronicle with Sarasa's coming of age and her tangled relationships with figures from the enemy side, and is also remembered as an early example of an anime distributed through a network of UHF stations.
