Biography of Budori Gusuko

A theatrical anime adaptation of Kenji Miyazawa's children's tale, written and directed by Ryutaro Nakamura and produced by Animaru-ya, released in July 1994. After losing his family to crop failure and famine, the young Budori toils in a forest factory and a farm before, under Dr. Kuubo's guidance, becoming an engineer at the volcano bureau, where he strives to save the people of Ihatov through artificial rain and volcanic-eruption control. With unadorned yet poetic imagery and a quiet voice faithful to Miyazawa's idealism, the film thoughtfully explores the bond between nature, humanity, science and prayer.
