Doraemon: Nobita and the Kingdom of Clouds

Aired: 1992

The thirteenth Doraemon theatrical feature, based on the manga by Fujiko F. Fujio. Convinced that a sky-dwelling civilization called the Tenjoujin lives above the clouds, Nobita persuades Doraemon and friends to use gadgets to build their own cloud kingdom, intending to use it as a sanctuary for endangered animals. Their adventure takes a serious turn when they discover a real sky civilization that, angered by humanity's environmental destruction, plans to flood the surface world. The film tackles environmental themes with unusual gravity for the franchise and is often cited as one of the strongest entries in the series. Tetsuya Takeda's ending theme Kumo ga Yuku no wa lingers in viewers' memory long after the credits roll, capturing the bittersweet emotional weight of the story.
